Abstract

A stochastic method to estimate survivability of a double tether system is described in this paper. Double tether is a pair of parallel strings connected at an every certain distance, in order to improve the survivability against collisions of space debris. First, probabilities of cut off on a tether is modeled, which is caused by a collision of space debris. Next, survivability of a double tethered system is formulated. And then, survivability of single and double tether system are evaluated and compared according to an environmental model of space debris.
