Abstract
Field experiments on cable dynamics during laying and recovery were carried out in this study using a test cable, and the measured items were pressure, temperature at a particular point on the cable, ship speed, cable incident angle, cable pay out speed, tension at the winch and motion of the cable ship. These were the final tests of a newly designed submarine cable and a validation of the numerical simulation technique developed in this study. Reliability of the software developed for the numerical simulation of the cable dynamics was verified, by comparing results of the sea trial with the actual numerical simulation.
