Fluoroalkyl terminated oligourethane (FOU) was synthesized with 1,4-butanediol (BD), 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) and 2-(perfluorooctyl) ethanol (PFOE). The (FOU/PU) blend thin films were prepared from the FOU and PU mixed solution onto a silicon wafer by a dip coating method. Surface aggregation structure of the (FOU/PU) blend thin films was investigated using static contact angle measurement, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and atomic force microscope (AFM). XPS and static contact angle measurement revealed that the FOU with urethane units gradually segregated at the surface with an increasing the FOU content. On the other hand, the FOU without urethane units remarkably segregated to the surface even at the low FOU content. These results clearly suggest that urethane units of the FOU strongly affect on the degree of surface segregation due to the strong interaction with the hard segment of the PU.
