Synthesis and self-assembly of trigonal-type β-sheet-forming peptide conjugates

Abstract

Inspired by biological supramolecular self-assemblies such as viruses and clathrin, we have developed a C3-symmetric peptide conjugate bearing β-sheet forming peptides Trigonal(FKFE)2, which have spherical nano-assemblies in the acidic solution.2) In this study, we describe synthesis and self-assembly of basic peptide conjugate Trigonal(FKFK) 2. The nanostructures formed by self-assembly of Trigonal(FKFK) 2 depended on the pH and ionic strength of aqueous solution. Trigonal(FKFK)2 formed spherical assemblies in neutral water, whereas fibrous assemblies were formed in basic water.
