Abstract
Ca-substituted Y124 superconductors Y1-xCaxBa2Cu4O8 (x = 0.05, 0.1) were synthesized at ambient oxygen pressure by a solid-state reaction method which used CuI instead of the conventional CuO. Experimental results showed a promoting effect of copper iodide on the formation of the 124 phase at normal oxygen pressure. Tc determined from the Meissner effect was 88 K for x = 0.05 and 90 K for x = 0.1. For the same Ca-substitution rates Tc(zero-resistance) of 80.5 K and 82.0 K was obtained respectively.
