    Abstract

Halogen-bridged 1-D Pt complexes packaged with anionic oleyl-amphiphiles have been developed. At room temperature, these complexes show purple color which is arising from the charge transfer along coordination main chains. These complexes give elastic crystals, which were sandwiched by two parallel quartz plates and by applying uniaxial shear between the plates, macroscopic orientation of mixed valence chains was induced. Interestingly, anisotropic orientation of linear complexes in the sheared films is memorized, as confirmed by polarized absorption spectroscopy.
