Synthesis of titania-doped mesoporous silica and its gas adsorbability

Abstract

Sol-gel synthesis, characterization and a possible explanation for the formation of TiO2-modified SiO2 mesoporous materials are described. The effects of TEOS-aging time and Ti-quantity have been investigated systematically. Surface area above 1000 m2/g was obtained with low quantity of Ti-loading when SiO2 gelation was only half completed. The higher sorption capacity for water was interrelated to higher acidity. Phase separation may occur in the Ti-rich region.
