Abstract
A dimetallic trinuclear Cu(II)2Gd(III) complex, [Cu2(L)][Gd(hfac)3] (1: H4L = 3,3′- (1,2-ethanediyldinitrilo)bis(1-o-hydroxyphenyl-1-butaneonato), hfac- = hexafluoroacetylacetonate ion) has been synthesized, and structurally and magnetically characterized. [Cu2(L)] unit coordinates to [Gd(hfac)3] through two phenolate oxygen atoms to afford a linear Cu(II)-Cu(II)-Gd(III) system. Its magnetic property is dominated by the antiferromagnetic interaction between two Cu2+ ions, and the Gd3+ ion behaves like a magnetically isolated ion.
