Abstract

The effects of the initial austenite grain size and the isothermal austempering conditions on the formation of retained austenite were investigated for a C-Mn-Si TRIP assisted steel. Bainite transformation is accelerated by larger initial austenite grain size and higher isothermal austempering temperature, while austempering time to achieve peak volume fraction of retained austenite is decreased. The volume fraction of retained austenite is increased by decrease in initial austenite grain size due to increase in stability of austenite.
