The interaction of sulfonated sugars with amyloid peptide of Aβ(1-42) and PrP(106-126)

Abstract

Biological active saccharide of proteoglycans and gangliosides has been reported to accelate the amyloid formation of Alzheimer peptide. Those reports indicated the strong interaction with Aβ.We have reported the synthesis and biological activity of sulfonated sugars for a sialic acid mimic.Here,we investigate the interaction between sulfonated GIcNAc and Aβ. The aggregation of Aβ with heparin and pNP 6-sulfo-GIcNAc was estimated by fluorescence of thioflavin T,CD spectra and TEM observations. Though heparin induced the aggregation and β-sheet conformation. pNP 6-sulfo-GIcNAc inhibited them.
