I2-doped regioregular poly(3-butyl)thiophene was studied in terms of thermoelectric materials. The pellet made of the powder sample and film prepared by cast technique were provided to the measurements of Seebeck coefficient, electric and thermal conductivity to give the temperature dependence. The Seebeck coefficient of the pellet shows the increase on heating up to 130 °C and attains to 200 μV/K from 110 μV/K. The electric conductivity was evaluated to be 15 S/m at 100 °C as a maximum. The thermal conductivity was measured to show the increase on heating from 0.12-0.2 W/mK, comparable to those of the ordinary polymer materials. The film prepared by casting from solution gave 170 μV/K of the Seebeck coefficient and 200 S/m of the electric conductivity at 50 °C. Considering the larger electric conductivity up to 105 S/m for conducting polymers, it is expected to find novel thermoelectric materials in conducting polymers.
