Thermoresponsive behavior of aqueous solutions of α,α- disubstituted vinyl polymers having two amide groups

Abstract

We synthesized two kinds of α,α-disubstituted vinyl polymers having two amide groups (polymer A and B). Polymer A has the same substituent at α-position that has no tacticity. Polymers having ethyl groups show phase transition and an unusual thermal hysteresis is observed. It is probably caused by strong hydrogen bonding among the amide groups of polymers. Moreover, the inorganic salts and urea does not affect this hysteresis.
