Abstract
The probe diffusion process across poly(acrylamide) gel is studied. The concentration of probe molecules eluted from the gel is measured as a function of time. It is found that the time course of the concentration of the probe molecule that eluted out of the gel is proportional to the elapsed time after a certain time lag. The results are in good agreement with the theoretical prediction. The diffusion coefficient of the probe in the gel, as well as the permeation coefficient of the gel, is determined from the time lag and the slope of the elution curve.
