Abstract

A study has reported a demonstration of two-photon absorption and photoluminescence properties of a series of first-generation blue-emitting bisfluorene-cored dendrimers in both the nanosecond and femtosecond regimes. The two-photon absorption coefficient was found to be significantly enhanced for the three dendrimers in comparison to the reported value for the bare bisfluorene core, while the presence of the dendrons makes it possible to maintain excellent photoluminescence properties in the solid state. The bisfluorene dendrimer with biphenyl (BP) dendrons combined with the best photoluminescence quantum efficiency, enabling it to be used as a tunable two-photon pumped lasing in conjugated polymers. The results of the study also demonstrate the great potential for using dendrimers as the gain medium in up-conversion lasers, and also the potential for integration into other nonlinear optical applications.
