Abstract

Two-stage up-grading was found to effectively denitrogenate and crack heavy coal liquids through the extensive hydrogenation in the first stage (approximately 380 degree C) and the effective hydrocracking in the second stage of a higher temperature (approximately 420 degree C). Important roles of solvent are also reported in the catalytic process.
