Abstract

Concrete tanks with rigid wall-to-footing connections develop substantial vertical cracks in the lower tank walls during curing. The relationship of this cracking to the rapid rise and fall of concrete temperatures is verified. The effectiveness of V-cuts in restricting cracking to specified locations is demonstrated; concentrating cracks in specific locations simplifies subsequent repair.
