Abstract
Establishment of an effective utilization method of post landfill usage has been urgently required for producing public land resources, and opening these spaces to the local society. Past research showed that the shearing responses of solid waste with synthetic materials caused a significant increase in strength and a reduced post-peak strength loss. Clarification of the reinforcement mechanism of synthetic materialsis very important to understand the mechanical behavior of solid waste. In this paper, the deformation behavior of geosynthetic (plastic sheet) in sand samples was investigated by using avisualized direct shear test apparatus. From this experimental work, it became clear that the deformation behavior of geosynthetic generated tensile deformation in the initial shearing region, and pull-out behavior occurred in a large shear displacement. The pull-out behavior would be followed by a decrease in the shear resistance of the composite material. The reinforcement effects were demonstrated by generating tensile force of geosynthetic.
