Abstract

This paper presents a wave response analysis of a box-like VLFS (Very Large Floating Structure) near a breakwater. The program developed utilizes the modal superposition method for both rigid body motions and bending modes of the floating plate. The computation size has been reduced by employing a Higher Order Boundary Element Method (HOBEM) which utilizes quadratic 8-noded panels, and the finite water depth Green's function has been employed. The inclusion of breakwater has also been made in the context of HOBEM; thus the dynamic interaction effect between the breakwater and the floating structure is automatically satisfied in the sense of the linear potential theory. A box-like VLFS having a length of 1,600m, a width of 400m, and a draft of 4m has successfully been analyzed up to L/λ = 40 (L: length of the VLFS, λ: incident wave length).
