    Abstract

An ultrathin poly(methyl methacrylate) film incorporating an amphiphilic ruthenium (II) polypyridine complex with long chain tails was prepared on a water surface by a casting-on-water method. X ray absorption spectroscopy were performed for various films prepared and references using the total electron yield method. Molar ratios between ruthenium head group and perchlorate ions at the solvent-water interface were found far from stoichiometric value (1:2) when the thin film was formed on fresh water.
