In the ground manhole cover (G.M.C.) maker, the G , M .C. surface designs have heen commited to outside designers, in-house designers have evaluated and directed outside designers to retouch the maked out designs as thir main work. However, in-house designers have evaluated, subjectively and arbitrarily, without the clear criterion. This study proposed that image words were adopted for one formative image indicator, extructed seven image words from making the in-house designers evaluate G.M.C. surface design and verified these words is formative image indicator from the viewpoint of G.M.C. surface design.
