A 68-year-old female underwent cataract surgery in her right eye and, 2 weeks later, in her left eye by phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation. YAG laser capsulotomy was performed on both eyes 4 weeks later. Vitreous and retrolental opacity developed in both eyes and 2 weeks after the procedure. Systemic corticosteroid and antibiotics proved futile, necessitating vitrectomy in both eyes 6 weeks later. Vitreous opacity recurred one month later. Both eyes were treated by vitrectomy and removal of intraocular lens. Streptococcus intermedius was isolated from the removed intraocular lens and the lens capsule.
