Type 1 gastric carcinoid is associated with Type A gastritis. A large amount of gastrin is secreted from antral G cells in response to achlorhydria in Type A gastritis. The hypergastrinemia has a trophic action on the enterochromaffin-like cells in the gastric fornix. This is a pathogenesis of Type 1 gastric carcinoid. We report a case of Type 1 gastric carcinoid treated by antrectomy. A 38-year-old man was found to have multiple polyps from the fornix to the upper gastric body with atrophic gastritis by gastroscopy. Polyp biopsy showed them to be carcinoid lesion. On laboratory examinations, hypergastrinemia and anti-parietal-cell antibodies were found. So they were diagnosed as Type 1 gastric carcinoid and anrectomy was done to suppress gastrin secretion. Postoperative serum gastrin concentration was normalized and gastric endoscopy showed complete regression of the carcinoid tumour.
