A new type of k-ε model which incorporates some essential characteristics of a Reynolds stress model is proposed. The present model is a nonlinear k-ε model taking into account the low-Reynolds-number effects near the wall and applicable to complex flows with separation and reattachment. The model predicts quite successfully both wall-turbulent and homogeneous shear flows, the latter of which has been very difficult to simulate with the existing k-ε models. Furthermore, the comparison of the computational results with the DNS data for channel flows with injection and suction at the wall surface, indicates that the present model is also effective in calculating turbulent flows under complicated boundary conditions as encountered in engineering applications.
