A surface plasmon resonance sensor on a compact disk-like microfluidic device

    We extend elemental technologies for development of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor using a compact disk (CD) -like microfluidic device. The device consists of microchannels, five solution reservoirs, a detection chamber, and a waste reservoir fabricated on a CD-like plate composed of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Fluid propulsion is achieved by the centrifugal force that results from spinning the device. Detection is performed by measuring surface plasmon resonance that based on grating coupler. This SPR sensor would be useful for on-site analysis since the sensor does not require large and heavy peripheral equipment such as pump and valve.
