A new measuring system for ultrasonic spectroscopy was constructed, utilizing piezoelectric polymer films as wideband transducers. By conducting FFT analysis on the ultrasonic pulses transmitted through specimens, the frequency spectra of attenuation over a wide range of about 1 to 10 MHz could be obtained simultaneously. In a test of its performance, this measuring system was successfully applied to nondestructive testing in various polymers and a study of the nematic-isotropic phase transition in liquid crystal MBBA.
