The purpose of this study is to construct a practical flow simulation system and to investigate the feasibility of this system for actual vehicle development process. In order to get the solution quickly, well-established Cartesian solver is employed with a volume mesh (voxel) system, which has a great advantage of short modeling time and robustness for a complex geometry. In addition, incorporated hhierarchical nested mesh structure leads high-resolution results without the increase of computing time. Computed results were demonstrated for underhood flows, flows passing through the front grilles and an air-conditioner duct flow. The all computed results showed good agreement with the experimented flow fields and enough short turnaround time. As a consequence, the present approach to simulate the flow around the complex shape is very efficient, powerful and has enough accuracy to support the vehicle development process.
