Ballast water exchange for prevention from biological hazard by flow-through method

The ocean environmental problems due to the contamination of marine life through ballast water exchanges are reported from every part of the world today. These problems were introduced into an important discussion at international conference on ballast water management for ship in International Maritime Organization. IMO has established the standards for ballast water management. However, in the present stage, it is difficult to satisfy the specified allowance by ballast water management device, so the ballast water exchange is taken as the practical measure in the actual circumstance. This study, on the subject of ballast water exchange for prevention from biological hazard, has been contemplated through hydrological experiments and numerical simulation on the flow-through method that is taken as one of practical measures for ballast water management.
