In a power recovery system from low grade thermal energy, heat is often transferred to the working fluid by a boiling process. For full use of the available temperature difference in this process and for reduction of heat exchanger size, enhancement of boiling heat transfer is one of the key elements to be solved. In fact, much effort has been directed at finding the means to enhance heat transfer. This paper deals with boiling enhancement by a prepared surface and by a tube bundle arrangement, each of which is related to the bubble behavior interior or exterior of the nominal surface. It discusses the heat transfer characteristics, models and correlations proposed for porous surface geometry, and the enhancement and its mechanism for heat transfer in tube bundles.
