    A third-order upwind finite difference scheme was applied to the analysis of the flow fields around a circular cylinder. The computations were made at various Reynolds numbers to investigate their effect on the flow phenomena including Karman vortex and the drag crisis in the range from 1, 000 to 1, 000, 000. The grid system is curvilinear type and the number of the grid points is about 100 thousand. A personal computer with a Pentium III of 600 MHz was used and the CPU time per run is about 50 hrs.<BR>The computed results show the generation of the Karman vortex, whose Strouhal number is reasonable. Various flow phenomena can be observed in the visualized flow field. An example is that more small-sized vortices are observed in the flow fields with higher Reynolds numbers. Though the computed value of Cd is a little different from the experimental one, the drag crisis takes place at the almost same Reynolds number as in the experiment.
