The applicability of explosion bonding technique to construct chevron-type amorphous torque sensors has been studied experimentally. Experiments have been carried out by using Metglas 2826MB and three different kinds of shafts, titanium(Ti), steel(S45C) and nonmagnetic stainless steel(SUS304) shafts. The results show that torque sensors with a wide dynamic range and sufficient sensitivity for practical use can be constructed, and that the sensitivity can be improved by a factor of 2 ∼ 4 by relaxing residul stresses introduced in the bonded ribbons with a short time annealing, such as, at 300°C for, 10 minutes. Further, effect of the stress-relief annealing on the temperature stability of torque sensors is discussed in conjunction with thermal expansion ratios of the shafts and the ribbons.
