Chemical modification of diamond surface with CH3(CH2)nCOOH using benzoyl peroxide

The chemical reactivity of a hydrogenated diamond surface with carboxylic acid [HCOOH, CH3(CH2)nCOOH (0 < n < 16)] in benzoyl peroxide containing solvent was investigated. The diamond surface modified with acetic acid was stable against severe conditions. The chemical reaction rate of the modification of the diamond surface was calculated based on experimental results. The peak intensity assigned to the C-H bond was determined by the kind of carboxylic acid used. The chemical reaction described in this study is very interesting because it can be used to design the chemical condition of the diamond surface. This chemical reaction constitutes a promising method for chemically modifying the diamond surface.
