Determination of the cationic demand for practical papermaking machine by use of chromophoric labeled PDADMAC

抄録

A cationic demand (CD) is a useful indicator to optimize the wet end operation of paper machine. Colloid titration, streaming potential(PCD) and zeta potential are usually employed to determine a CD. These methods work very well when the ionic strength (IS) of sample is low. But, serious errors takes place to make nonsense of the measurement when IS increases beyond some levels. Generally IS of practical papermaking stock is such a case. Then chromophoric polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride (C-PDADMAC) was prepared for the first time and applied to determine successfully a CD by the detection of coloration of the filtrate or the supernatant of the practical papermaking stock.
