Presence of malignant pleurisy adversely affects the staging and prognosis. We discussed here the role of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) -PET for the diagnosis of malignant pleural diseases. On the one hand, FDG-PET is quite efficient for the differentiation between malignant and benign pleural diseases even if CT findings are subtle, but on the other it has a limitation for the detection of small lesions because of its relatively poor resolution. Combining PET with CT findings makes more accurate diagnosis.
