Effect of aging time on the crystal structure of new quaternary silicate gel-glasses

Bioactive glasses and glass-ceramics were applied in bone fix applications, dental applications as well as in tissue engineering. New S50P4 glass with a composition of SiO2-Na2O-CaO-P2O5 in the quaternary system with different aging time (3, 5 and 7 days) was prepared by sol-gel method. XRD results indicate that the crystalline patterns in gel-derived glass aged for 3 days exhibit high intensity peaks compare to samples aged for 5 and 7 days. In FTIR spectra, the intensity of the crystalline silicate and phosphate phases were decreased with an increase aging time.
