Effect of flow history on the crystallization of three polyethyrenes, S (short), M (middle) and L (long) and S/M and S/L blends (9:1 by weight) are examined by DSC and IR measurements. The effect appears at the shear rates close to the critical shear rates for onset of non-Newtonian behavior. Degree of crystallization was higher for higher molecular weight samples at high shear rates. Degrees of crystallization for blend samples at high shear are close to those of minor components, that is, higher molecular weight additives.
