In this study, the relationship between surface chemistry of segmented polyurethanes (SPU) with various polyol components and their lipid sorption has been studied. It is shown that the amount of lipid sorption increased with an increase in hydrophillcity of polyol component. Lipid in water forms liposome in which hydrophilic group orients to the water interface. Since the surface of PEO(1000)BDO was enriched with PEO in an aqueous lipid solution, the rate of lipid sorption was faster and the amount of lipid sorption was larger than other hydrophobic SPU's. This can be attributed to the small interfacial free energy between lipid liposome and PEO-rich surface.
