Effect of surface molecular motion on wetting properties of poly(fluoroalkyl methacrylate)s with short Rf groups [PFMA-C y, where y is fluoromethylane number in Rf groups, y = 1,2,4] thin films were characterized by dynamic contact angle measurement, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), wide-angle X-ray diffraction, and lateral force microscopy (LFM). The receding contact angle of PFMA-Cy was lager than poly(fluoroalkyl acry late) with short Rf groups [PFA-C]. X-ray diffraction revealed that Rf groups were not crystallized. These results indicated that the thermal molecular motion of molecular chains were restricted by α-methyl groups and the reorientation of short R f chains was hard to occur.
