N2 - We conducted a comparative randomized controlled study of hyperkeratotic tinea pedis treatment with luliconazole cream alone or combined with urea ointment administered for 8 weeks. Ninety-seven patients, including 38 patients in the monotherapy group and 59 patients in the combined therapy group, were enrolled in this study. The results showed that skin symptoms were improved in 77.8% of patients in the monotherapy group, and in 68.8% of those in the combined therapy group after 8 weeks of treatment The mycological improvement was achieved in 55.6% of the monotherapy patients, and in 61.3% of those on the combined therapy. There was no significant difference in any of the main endpoints between these two groups. These results suggest that treatment of hyperkeratotic tinea pedis with newly developed antifungal drugs with strong fungus-eradicating activity and good retention in the skin, such as luliconazole, does not necessarily require combined therapy with urea ointment.
