Electrically controllable periodic dissipative structure in liquid crystalline composite materials

抄録

Unique dissipative structures of the nematic director were induced in the (polymer/liquid crystal) composite systems through application of an electric field. The stripe pattern was formed by electrically induced reorientation of the directors when an appropriate magnitude of an electric field was applied. The spinodal-like decomposition from a monostable orientational state to a bistable one is a possible origin of the formation of the periodic stripe pattern.
