The dynamics of the phase model of ferroelectric liquid crystals (FLCs) in thick free-standing films was studied by examining the electro-optic response. The obtained electro-optic spectra show good agreement with the theoretical spectra of permittivity predicted for a finite-size system along the helical axis by Kutnjak-Urbanc and Zeks. Both the relaxation time of the Goldstone mode and the helical pitch were slightly shorter than those reported in sandwich cells.
