Matrix Metalloproteinase II (MMP II) plays a key role when cancer cells perform invasion and metastasis by degrading a collagen. Moreover, the expression of this proteinase is enhanced in bone destruction in rheumatoid arthritis. We succeeded in developing novel drug delivery system that can respond to MMP II. In our DDS, the micelle which is formed from amphiphilic copolymers is used as a drug carrier. The copolymer is composed of hydrophobic polymer main chain and hydrophilic peptide side chain which is linked to the main chain with substrate of MMP II. The micelle will be coagulated by digestion of the substrate by MMP II that is enhanced in cancer invasion and rheumatoid and will release the incorporated drug. To realize the DDS, we synthesized the copolymers and evaluated in vitro.
