In order to evaluate the nano- and micro adhesion properties at the surface of glycidyl groups immobilized Si-wafer substrate, the adhesion force and lateral force measurements were carried out by the scanning force microscope with chemically modified cantilever tips. Large adhesion force and lateral force were observed at the surface of grycidyl groups immobilized Si-wafer substrates with the hydroxyl groups immobilized cantilever tip in pH=7 purified water. The observed large interactive force between hydroxyl groups terminated cantilever tip and surface glycidyl groups in pH=7 purified water can be explained by the interaction being originated from the hydrogen bonds between highly hydrolyzed glycidyl groups on the GPTMS immobilized Si-wafer substrate surface and hydroxyl groups at the surface of chemically modified cantilever tips.
