Evaluation of protein function on structurally controlled stereocomplex thin films

Isotactic and syndiotactic poly(methyl methacrylate)s (PMMAs) form double-stranded helical stereocomplexes with a respective length ratio of 1:2 based on van der Waals interactions in organic solvents. Bioactivities of stereocomplex surfaces are significant for determining the potential for biomedical applications. We prepared PMMA stereocomplex films by a layer-by-layer assembly method, and observed antigen-antibody interactions and enzyme reactions on film surfaces. Effects of film surface structures on antigen-antibody interactions and enzyme reactions were investigated. As a result, it was found that protein activities on stereocomplex films were higher than those on PMMA homogeneous films.
