Extravasation of soft nanoparticles simulated on an easy-to-observe membrane-integrated microfluidic device

Nanoparticles with diameters of ~100 nm have been widely utilized for tumor-targeted drug delivery. Recently, soft nanoparticles have been recognized as better drug carriers than hard ones. However, the effect of nanoparticle elasticity on the extravasation has not been clarified yet. Here we simulate extravasation of soft nanoparticles using our easy-to-observe membrane-integrated microfluidic device. Soft nanoparticles exhibit higher permeability compared to hard one. The present technique will be utilized to clarify the mechanism of drug delivery by soft nanoparticles and to evaluate the performance of the nanoparticles prior to animal testing.
