Flux pinning properties of Sm1+xBa2-xCu3Oy films with BaZrO3 nanorods fabricated by low-temperature growth technique

We have fabricated high-Jc Sm1+xBa2-xCu3Oy (SmBCO) films including nanosize low-Tc phases within the high-Tc matrix by using a low-temperature growth (LTG) technique. On the other hand, as a promising approach of enhancing the magnetic flux pinning, it has been a focus of attention to introduce columnar defects of self-organized BaZrO3 (BZO) nanorods along c-axis of films. In this study, we incorporated BZO nanorods into LTG-SmBCO film for further enhancement of the flux pinning. As a result, the magnetic field angular dependence of Jc at 77 K of the 2 vol.% BZO doped LTG-SmBCO film was isotropic. Additionally the Jc peak for the c-axis direction was much broader and higher than that of the usual LTG-SmBCO films. These indicate that not only low-Tc phases act as field-induced pinning centers but also BZO nanorods result in the enhancement of the flux pinning.
