    <p>Crystal plasticity finite element (CPFE) analysis of uniaxial tensile test of polycrystalline <i>α</i> titanium was conducted to investigate a mechanism of strain localization. The geometric model for the analysis was built from a microstructural map of <i>α</i> titanium obtained by electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). Two types analyses were performed; one is to investigate the effect of changes in critical resolved shear stress (CRSS) ratio among slip systems, and the other is to investigate the effect of plastically soft region where the condition was set by crystal orientation artificially changed in few crystal grains. The results showed that strain localization can occur on the condition that biased CRSS ratios among slip systems are employed; however, the spatial strain distribution was relatively homogeneous when the artificial soft region occurred in the geometric model. Such mechanism of strain localization can be explained by strain redistribution among "soft" and "hard" regions, and it occurs among distant as well as adjacent grains.</p>
