The effect of lysine tri-isocyanate (LTI) addition on the microstructure and the mechanical properties of hydroxyapatite/Poly(L-lactide) (HA/PLLA) composites was studied. HA particles with the size of 5μm were used as filler and HA and PLLA pellets were mixed by the melt-mixer at 190°C. It is found that the crystallinity of PLLA decreases by LTI addition, showing that the crystallization is hindered by crosslinking of PLLA molecules. The maximum load and the corresponding displacement of HA/PLLA/LTI is greater than those of HA/PLLA, indicating the effectiveness of LTI addition for bending m,mechanical behavior. The fracture surface of HA/PLLA is characterized by rough surface with voids that are formed by debonding HA particles from PLLA matrix. The results also show that in HA/PLLA/LTI, PLLA molecular bundles are firmly connected into the surface of the HA particle.
