抄録

<p>The influence of the amount of dissolved air in the working fluid (machine oil) on the aspect of cavitation in automotive torque converter was experimentally investigated using a visualization model. Observation was performed with the internal pressure gradually decreased stepwisely at the stall condition where the turbine speed is zero. To assess the incipient cavitation number more precisely, sound pressure level (SPL) was measured using a hydrophone placed in the test chamber, where the visualization model was soaked. As a result, the cavitation number at which cavitation inception occurred was different dependent on the amount of dissolved air. This seems to be because the dissolved air separates from liquid into cavitation nuclei at higher cavitation number in the condition with larger amount of dissolved air. The detection of cavitation inception was earlier in the SPL measurement than the observation. However, at the inception condition detected by the observation, the SPL due to cavitation was similar regardless of the amount of dissolved air. This is probably because the bubble radius in the observed inception is similar. The aspect of developed cavitation was also investigated, and it was confirmed that the cavitation area expanded as the number of cavitation decreased, and that the cavitation bubble began to appear in the whole flow passage at the earlier cavitation number in the case with larger amount of dissolved air.</p>
