Intermediate structures in 12 C( 16 O, 12 C[2 + ]) 16 O studied with the γ-ray recoil method

The intermediate structures in 12 C+ 16 O inelastic scattering were investigated at energies around E c.m. = 30 MeV in the 12 C(2 + )+ 16 O(g.s.) single excitation and the 12 C(2 + )+ 16 O(3 - ,0 2 + ) mutual excitation channels and at E c.m. = 22.6 MeV in the 12 C(2 + ) + 16 O(g.s.) single excitation channel. The angular distributions of the magnetic substate cross sections for the 2 + (4.439 MeV) state of 12 C were measured by using the γ-ray recoil method in the center-of-mass ejectile-axis frame. It is shown that the structures at E c.m. = 29.8 and 31.8 MeV in the 12 C(2 + )+ 16 O(g.s.) channel are interpreted as resonances of J π = 16 + or 17 - which decay dominantly through the aligned configurations with L = J-2. On the other hand, the structure at E c.m. = 22.6 MeV is accounted for by assuming the overlap of two resonances having spins and parities of J π = 12 + and J π = 16 + . In the 12 C(2 + )+ 16 O(3 - ,0 2 + ) channel, little oscillatory structures are observed in the m-substate angular distributions so that the resonance spins cannot be extracted.
