Interrelationship of cellular fluorescein formation ability, an indication of cell viability, with environmental factors and with aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylase activity

Fifty-eight lymphoblastoid cell lines were determined both for their cellular fluorescein formation ability (CFFA) and aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylase (AHH) activities, while each one was interviewed for several factors of his (her) living environment. Simple correlation coefficients of CFFA were found to be correlated positively with the daily use of oil stoves and negatively with AHH inducibility. Multivariate analysis performed to obtain partial regression coefficient indicated that CFFA was correlated negatively with the 3-methylcholanthrene (MC)-induced AHH activity. These results suggest the presence of a negative relationship between CFFA and the drug metabolizing ability, AHH activity, in the human lymphoblastoid cells.
